Lynn Downey
is a native California writer, archivist and historian. She
has been the company Historian for Levi Strauss & Co.
in San Francisco since 1989 and is the co-author of four books,
whose topics range from Levi's® jeans to the tile of Catalina
Island. She also has thirty journal articles, book reviews
and essays to her credit, and these have appeared in magazines
ranging from Sportswear International to California
History.
As media spokesperson
for history at LS&CO., Lynn has appeared on television
programs as diverse as “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “Central
Valley Chronicles,” “Good Day L.A.” and
the British version of “Antiques Roadshow.” She
also been interviewed for Vogue, Dazed
and Confused and DenimHunt.com, among
many other print and online publications.
Lynn regularly lectures
about California and Levi Strauss & Co. history, and
has spoken at workshops for the Oakland Museum, the
Society of American Archivists, the Society of California
Archivists, the Landmarks Council of San Francisco and the
California Council for the Promotion of History. She
is also the former Chair of the Frank Lloyd Wright Marin
County Civic Center Conservancy in San Rafael.
